2021: Paint Out! MRAA paints Plein Air

As soon as the weather permits we’ll announce new outdoor painting opportunities.

From last year: Please come to sketch or paint with fellow MRAA members (August 2021)

…Bring your medium of choice, a snack, plenty of water to hydrate and protection from the sun. We’ll meet at Bryan Park. There are rolling hills, two large ponds (one with a waterfall), plenty of trees, three streams, and even a 17 acre azalea garden. Upon entering the park, drive about 1/10th mile and turn left at sign pointing to soccer fields. There is a parking lot to the right shortly after making the turn. The bathrooms are further along toward soccer fields. Once you check in, then you can head out to find your painting spot. Hope to see you there.

And while registration for this event is not required, it would be very helpful to your board and planning committee to have an idea how many members are interested in attending. Please let us know by registering at this page.

How does one capture the sublime?

With joy in one’s heart. What a spring that was for plein air painters! Beautiful dry days with clouds and breezes and rushing water on the James. And now MRAA is planning our summer and fall outings! Til then, here’s a little something from the folks at Plein Air Magazine to whet your appetite for being in what the Impressionists called “the great outdoors studio”.
